Twitter

I follow my workplace's PR dept on Twitter to see what kinds of things they announce. But they just requested to follow my feed. Um, no, you can't follow my feed!! If you do I won't be able to semi-publicly air out frustrations with work!

Self-Love

No, not that kind!

It took me 4 years, but I just noticed this blog got a mention on news.com. I don't think it's been mentioned in the 4 years since.

The post that got mentioned was part of the "blog community response" to a story about daylight savings time.

At least they credited me, unlike one of the Yankee blogs that relayed my story of searching for Yankee tickets but didn't credit me!

I may not post here often but I still have an ego.

Google Goes All Out for 4/1

Google, well known for their April Fool's jokes in the past really went all-out today.

There's CADIE, their odd little artificial intelligence system with a weird blog page reminiscent of the worst of MySpace. Then they added 3D to their Chrome browser, inverted YouTube, brought us Gmail Autopilot, mobile Brain search and have a Red Eye Adder for Picasa.

While they've had some clever jokes in the past, I don't remember there being so many of these little jokes at the same time. There's a maps joke too regarding the CADIE system.

Google - Autofill

I was disturbed to do a google search that started out "best method..." and the first autofill suggestion from google (presumably the most popular) was "best method of suicide." That was followed by the more benign options "best method man songs," "best method of birth control," and "best method to quit smoking."

Google Reader

Why has it taken me so long to adopt an RSS reader? I just started using Google Reader recently and I love it. It really saves me a lot of time while web browsing.

I think the main reason that I've been slow to adopt the RSS reader is that I only recently started reading a bunch of blog-style websites on a regular basis. In addition, a bunch of comics news websites, like Newsarama and CBR, weren't providing RSS feeds. But now, Google Reader makes things much easier, and there's no need to visit a million different websites, I can just open Reader and let it update for me. I'm not sure if Google Reader is the best RSS feed reader out there but since I use GMail, it seems like an easy one to pick up.

Are You Listed?

I wish I knew more people who lived or worked in Washington DC. There's a search tool for the recently released phone records of escort Deborah Jeane Palfrey at www.dcphonelist.com.

Taxi Fare Estimator

To someone who has the time:

I think it would be very useful to develop a taxi cab fare estimator for NYC where you could plug in an origin and destination and a rough estimate of the taxi fare would be spit out. The taxi fare is formulaic anyways (flat rate + distance), with the biggest wildcard being traffic. If you could sync the estimator with traffic reports, then it would be even better. This would also help with making offers to non-yellow cabs (the so-called gypsy cabs). It could be in the same vein as hopstop.com, the great subway route resource.

If someone has already come up with this, then I apologize but I wasn't able to find anything on my google searches.
