Sabathia

The Yankees are expected to make an offer to CC Sabathia that will "blow him away." I hope not. Sabathia has had a career year last year but haven't we learned the lessons of Carl Pavano and Jared Wright? One career year a future cannot predict. Sabathia prior to the last two years has been decent but by no means an ace. Here's hoping the Yanks show some restraint - although they do need serious help with the starting 5.

He's had more than 2 good years.

Fact is Yankees need pitching. He's better than what they have now. They have the resources. They will sign him.

2003–2004
In 2003, he had the tenth-best ERA in the AL (3.60). He was also named to the American League All-Star team for the first time, with a repeat appearance in 2004.
2005-2006
In 2005, he was fourth in the AL in strikeouts/9 IP (7.37), seventh in strikeouts (161) and eighth in wins (15). This marked his fifth straight season of double digit wins to open a career. The Indians went 20–11 in his starts. His strong five years with the Indians led the club to pick up his option for 2006. In 2006, he led the major leagues with 6 complete games. He also led the AL in shutouts (2), was third in ERA (3.22), sixth in strikeouts per 9 IP (8.03) and eighth in strikeouts (172). He became the first left-handed pitcher to start his career with six consecutive seasons of double digit wins.

Pavano was signed for having a good playoff performance against the Yankees. Otherwise his career previous to the Yankees was marked with frequent injuries and average performance.

Jared Wright also had some bad years before signing with the Yankees.

So the Pavano and Wright signings can't really be compared to the future Sabathia signing since Sabathia has been a proven commodity whereas Wright and Pavano were questionable and probably more of a future potential signings.

And postseason, 1-3 with a 7.92 ERA. He is better than what they have but when you only have three starters, most things are. It's not like adding Johnan Santana but they'll pay him more than Santana.
