I Hate the Patriots

Don't ever underestimate the New England Patriots. That's the lesson that keeps getting beaten into me week after week while watching pro football. I would be very, very, very surprised if the Pats don't repeat as champs again. Yes, they lost at Pittsburgh earlier this year, but don't forget, Corey Dillon wasn't in the game. Things will fall into place next week, as Atlanta surprises Philly and the Steelers get knocked out.

Why do I hate the Patriots? Well, I have to admit, that hate is turning more and more into respect. But it all started because Belichek bolted from the Jets coaching job, took the Jet coordinators and a bunch of old Jet retread players and won the Super Bowl.

One other anecdote:

I ordered a Patriot jersey for a friend of mine and now I get the New England Patriots merchandise catalog delivered to my house. To boot, they have now started sending me Red Sox junk mail as well.

pats rule

why do you hate bellichek from bolting?
i think the question you should ask is what was so wrong with the jets that made him want to go to the pats?
why did the coordinators and the players want to leave the jets too?

Stop trying to bait me with your Patriots propaganda.

Also, everyone loves Bob Kraft. The same Bob Kraft who had a deal in place to move the Patriots to Hartford before Massachusetts caved in and offered to build a new, tax-payer financed stadium.

Bellichek inherited a pretty damn good team when he had the Jets job. He totally bailed out, the team didn't even know he was going to quit until the day of the press conference that was supposed to announce him as head coach.

``The uncertainty surrounding the ownership of the team, and a number of other things, had an effect on my decision. I know the commitment that needs to be made, and I don't feel in the current situation I can lead the Jets with 100 percent conviction. The situation is one of great uncertainty, and I just don't feel I can go forward.

``I have to make a decision that I understand what's at stakee and I just don't feel that I can lead the Jets in the year 2000. I've been in a situation and, more importantly, my family has been in a situation where I was the head coach of a team in transition, of a team that went through a lot of changes, and frankly it wasn't a real good experience for me or them.''

``I'm not saying that would happen here. I don't know what would happen, what I would need to do. I don't feel that I can do it right now.

``I've been concerned about the situation here since Leon Hess died. We talked about all the stipulations. By Dec. 15, there was going to be an owner. It's Jan. 4. We've run through scenarios and it seems like every time we talk, a new scenario takes place. There hasn't been a consistent pattern.''

``It's about the whole package, built up over a period of months. It really was triggered when Bill [Parcells] said, `If you have that many questions -- and I can't answer them all, I'm not the new owners, I'm not selling the team -- if you have that many reservations about it, then you should think about whether you want to be in this job.''

``I understand that I have a contract. I understand that there are rules and interpretations of the contract ... I'm no lawyer and there are plenty of them around, and I'll let them deal with it.''

Hmmmm...seems to me that the Jets sucked pretty hard until Bill Parcells became the "HC of the NYJ." And wasn't he the coach of the Patriots right before then? In fact, wasn't he under contract with the Patriots at the time? And depending on what you believe, wasn't he negotiation with the Jets about taking the job the week before New England lost the Super Bowl in '96?

I can understand the hatred, but I thought it would be fun to point this out.
